Traditional Sweet Potato Casserole

Without a homemade traditional sweet potato casserole Thanksgiving would not be complete.


  • 2 1/2 pounds peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes sweet potatoes.
  • packed brown sugar 3/4 cup
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup divided pecans, finely chopped.
  • Cooking spray
  • 2 cups miniature marshmallows


How to Make It

Step 1

First set oven to 375°.

Step 2

Then put the sweet potatoes in a Dutch oven, and cover with cold water. Get to a boil. decrease heat, and simmer for 15 minutes or till tenders verily. Drain; cool slightly.

Step 3

Put potatoes in a large bowl. Adding sugar and next 3 ingredients (through vanilla). Mashing sweet potato mixture with a potato masher. Folding in 1/4 cup pecans. Then Scraping potato mixture into an even layer in an 11 x 7-inch baking dish (cooking spray coated). Sprinkling with remaining 1/4 cup pecans; top with marshmallows. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes or till it goldens.
